An Original Vintage Theatrical Style 2 Movie Glass Slide (measures 3 1/4" x 4" [8 x 10 cm]) (Learn More) Edgar Allan Poe's Murders in the Rue Morgue, the 1932 Robert Florey Universal crime horror mystery thriller ("The Super Shocker"; "Based on the Edgar Allan Poe's Murders in the Rue Morgue"; set in Paris) starring Bela Lugosi (billed as "Dracula himself"; as Dr. Mirakle), Sidney Fox (billed as "Star of 'Strictly Dishonorable'"), Leon Ames (billed as "Leon Waycoff"), Bert Roach, Brandon Hurst, Noble Johnson (as Janos, The Black One), D'arcy Corrigan, Arlene Francis, Iron Eyes Cody, Joe Bonomo (famous early strongman, as one of the gorillas, and he also played a gorilla in 1929's "King of the Kongo"!), and Charles Gemora (as Erik the Gorilla; and amazingly, he reprised this role when the movie was remade by Warner Bros in 1954, 22 years later!). Note that this movie is considered to have been the consolation prize for Florey and Lugosi after they were replaced as director and star on "Frankenstein" by Universal. Note that starting in 1929 and continuing into the 1940s, Charles Gemora played gorillas in many movies, likely because he owned a gorilla suit, and could do a somewhat convincing job portraying a gorilla. Just a few years later, Ray 'Crash' Corrigan would also start playing gorillas, and no doubt they competed for roles in every movie requiring a gorilla! Not only that, but posters from this movie are beyond rare (we have only ever auctioned two window cards, and those were two-color, and no other posters)! Note that this is from an incredible collection of 76 glass slides that were recently discovered! Almost all of them are from 1931 to 1933 (with a very few from before and after). We are auctioning them in 76 separate auctions, and then there will be no more from this amazing find (except for a few duplicated ones, which we will auction at a later time). Not only are many wonderful titles included, but many of the slides are in remarkable condition, and quite a few of them do not have any showtimes or days of the week handwritten in the bottom area, and many likely look like they did when they were first sent to the theater! There have been several "finds" of glass slides over the many years we have been auctioning, but this is surely one of the greatest ever and it is a wonderful opportunity to purchase some or many of these extreme rarities! Also note that glass slides were designed to be put in a special projector that would project the image onto a movie screen (they use exactly the same concept as 35mm slides). We have taken a digital photo of each that shows the general condition of the overall slide and holder, and we have also made a digital scan that shows the glass image well, but does not show the holder (except as a dark outline).
