Auction History Result d156 SIMBA window card movie poster '28 African safari! Date Sold 10/12/2004Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Window Card Movie Poster (measures 14" x 22") (Learn More) Simba: The Lion War of A Lumbwa Tribe, the 1928 Martin E. Johnson African jungle safari documentary ("4 years to make 2 hours to show"; "Produced by the Martin Johnson African Expedition Corp"; "Direct from the record breaking run at the Earl Carroll Theatre .. New York") starring Martin Johnson and Osa Johnson (they are billed as "Mr. & Mrs. Johnson"). Note that Osa Johnson was married to Martin Johnson, and that they made African documentary movies for 20 years, but Martin Johnson was killed in 1937 during the filming of "Borneo", but his wife finished the movie and released it after his death, and she also released one final movie, "I Married Adventure", in 1940, three years after her husband's death, and on that movie, she was billed as "Osa Johnson (Mrs. Martin Johnson)". Note that this was one of the two dozen or so movies that the Johnsons made between 1912 and 1928, but very little first release movie paper survives on any of them. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Artist: Hap Hadley Condition: good. many smudges and light water stains throughout the card; small tears and tiny areas of paper loss around the edges; This is the sort of poster that responds well to restoration. After paperbacking by a good restorer, the poster would look great and there would not be much paint anywhere on the poster! This window card is in "lesser" condition (it is clearly in less than "very good" condition, and may be all the way down to "fair" condition, as we are selling a collection of early window cards that were found inside of a wall, and those all have water stains and other defects, which should be easily seen on our large images)! This window card has clear defects, which are likely to be very noticeable in our "large" or "super-sized" images that you can click on from our small image at right. In addition, we have also noted in words what these defects are in our "Description of Defects" section above, as some of these defects may not be all that visible in the images. We know that some collectors could accept this window card's defects, and display it as is, and we also know that many collectors would only be happy with this window card if they had it restored, so please do not bid on it unless you can accept it as it is, or are willing to pay to have it properly restored. Of course, you should realize that if you do not bid on this window card because of its condition defects, it may be quite some time before you see this window card offered again!
