A Folded Hungarian Advertising Poster (measures 24 1/4" x 37 1/4" [62 x 95 cm]) (Learn More) Szerencsi, the circa 1930s Hungarian poster advertising Szerencsi bonbons, chocolates, and cocoa. Note that this poster features art of a girl eating a small piece from a Szerencsi chocolate bar (at this time, chocolate bars were relatively very expensive and was primarily something only wealthier people ate). This company still exists in 2017! It was founded in 1921, but did not produce chocolate until 1923, when it solely made baking chocolate. In 1927, it added milk chocolate, which was then called "Szerencsi MILK", but is today known as "Boci". In 1928, they added cocoa powder, which is when they started their now-famous packaging design with a white cat. In the 1930s, they added bonbons, candies, and other desserts. The poster would seem to surely date from the early 1930s, soon after they added bonbons, because the woman has a bob haircut and a flapper style dress, and it has an Art Deco style to it, which was at its height in the early to mid 1930s. The artist who created this great poster is unknown! If anyone knows more about this poster, please e-mail us and we will post it here. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this poster was folded at one time but has been laying flat for a long time and will be sent rolled in a tube. Condition: good to very good. The poster was folded like a U.S. one-sheet at one time, but it has been laying flat, and the folds are greatly diminished (and it will be sent rolled in a tube). There are faint brown water stains scattered across the center, and they are most noticeable in the middle of the girl's arm and yellow dress, and in the right end of the fold, where it deteriorated the paper. Someone performed some restoration to the back of that part of the poster, to stabilize it. Otherwise, the poster has not had restoration. One could display it just as it is, because the water staining is truly faint, or certainly, it could easily be backed and the poster will display wonderfully. Please look closely at our super-sized image before bidding to see exactly where the defects are and how noticeable they are. Learn More about condition grades
