A Linenbacked French Special Poster (measures 30 1/2" x 42" [77 x 107 cm]) (Learn More) Maurycy Minkowski was a Polish painter of Jewish ancestry, best-known for his scenes of daily life in the shtetls (a small town with a large Jewish population). A childhood illness left him deaf and without speech, and he attended a special school for the deaf where he showed a skill for drawing. In 1901, he began his formal studies at the Krakow Academy of Fine Arts, and he graduated in 1905 with a gold medal. After traveling through Germany and Austria, he settled in Paris. In 1930, he went to Argentina to help prepare the first overseas exhibition of his paintings. While there he was struck by a taxi and killed. Artist: Maurycy Minkowski Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good to fine. The poster was never folded and had the most minor of border defects.
