An Original Vintage Autographed Souvenir Program Book (measures 9" x 11 3/4" [23 x 30 cm]; 17 pages) (Learn More) Cotton Club was a legendary New York City night club in Harlem from 1923 to 1935 and in the Theatre District in Midtown from 1935 to 1940 (it closed in 1940, due to increasing rents, and The Latin Quarter took its place). The club was a "whites-only" establishment until 1935, even though it featured many of the greatest black entertainers of the era including: Cab Calloway, Duke Ellington, Louis Armstrong, Lena Horne, Dorothy Dandridge, The Nicholas Brothers, and many, many more! In 1935, when it moved to the Theatre District, it opened to black patrons as well as white. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this program has been personally autographed (signed) by Cab Calloway! He signed on the interior page which has three great images of him and a small biography (see our image). Also note that the cover contains an unclothed woman, so we have placed a white bar over those areas, for those who are bothered by such images. Of course, the actual program book does not have those white bars! There are also some nude images within the program that we did not picture. Also note that we have pictured the front cover and an interior 2-page spread from this program. Note that this item was consigned to us by a man who has been a major movie memorabilia dealer from the 1970s on. During that time, he would regularly purchase collections of movie memorabilia from both dealers and collectors, and in some of those collections he purchased autographed items. Both we and our consignor feel it is extremely likely that the autograph on this item is authentic, but he does not have a certificate of authenticity. Condition: good. There is a piece of tape over the price on the front cover. The covers were separated at the spine, and someone put tape on the inside of the covers and some pieces on the outside of the spine to hold it together. There are many creases, smudges, and scuffs on the covers, but the interior pages are in pretty nice condition. Learn More about condition grades
