An Original Vintage Theatrical Unfolded Japanese "B2" Movie Poster (measures 20" x 28 1/2") (Learn More) Jeannot et Jean (literally translates to "Jeannot and Jean"), the circa 1990s Japanese poster advertising a film festival featuring the Jean Cocteau movies starring Jean Marais: La Belle et la Bete (released in 1947 in the U.S. as "The Beauty and the Beast"), the classic 1946 Jean Cocteau French romantic fantasy adventure (based on the classic fairy tale by Madame Leprince de Beaumont) starring Jean Marais (in a dual role as both la Bete and the Prince), Josette Day (in the title role as Belle), Mila Parely, Nane Germon, Michael Auclair, and Marcel Andre AND Orphee (released in the U.S. as "Orpheus"), the classic 1950 Jean Cocteau French romantic fantasy (re-telling the classic fable of Orpheus and Eurydice, but set in modern day France, about how a man does not let even Death separate him from his beloved) starring Jean Marais (in the title role as Orphee/Orpheus), Francois Perier (as Heurtebise), Maria Casares (likely best remembered for her role as Death in this movie, where she played all her scenes with her eyes closed and with "eyes" painted over her eyelids!), Marie Dea (as Eurydice), Henri Cremieux, Greco, Roger Blin, and Edouard Dermithe AND L'eternel Retour (released in the U.S. in 1948 as "The Eternal Return"), the 1943 Jean Delannoy French romantic melodrama ("scenario" and "dialogue" by Jean Cocteau; about a handsome young man with a rich uncle and a cousin who is a dwarf, whose mother is the sister-in-law of the rich man and they both want his money, and there is also a beautiful blonde girl that the handsome man becomes involved with, and it is possible that they are long separated brother and sister; it is a modern day retelling of the "Tristan and Isolde" legend) starring Madeleine Sologne, Jean Marais, Jean Murat, Junie Astor, and Roland Toutain. Note that this is a fascinating movie! It was made in France during World War II when it was occupied by Nazi Germany, and there are those who see this as a pro-German movie, with its beautiful blonde lovers (very Aryan in appearance), and an evil dwarf, but there are also subtle anti-Nazi messages embedded in it as well. Many consider this one of Cocteau's best movies (he solely wrote it and did not direct it). First release posters from it are extremely rare, not surprising, since it was made in France during World War II when there were huge paper shortages! If anyone knows more about this film festival, please e-mail us and we will post it here. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know.
