They can't sink an Indiana Fighting Ship") encouraging people to buy extra war bonds for the purpose of funding the new U.S.S. Vincennes light cruiser to replace the heavy cruiser that was lost in the battle of Savo Island, and featuring a sketch of the old Vincennes sailing with a fleet of ships and a squadron of planes. Note that there have been 4 ships to bear the name Vincennes. The first was a sloop-of-war which was commissioned in 1826. The second was the heavy cruiser mentioned above which was commissioned in 1937 and sunk by the Japanese at the Battle of Savo Island in 1942. The third was the light cruiser mentioned above which was commissioned in 1944. The fourth was a guided-missile cruiser which was commissioned in 1985 (likely best-remembered as the ship that shot down Iran Air Flight 655 over the Persian Gulf, killing 290 passengers and sparking an international incident between Iran and the United States). Artist: Frederick Polley Important Added Info: Note that this poster was folded at one time but has been laying flat for a long time and will be sent rolled in a tube. Condition: very good.
