An Original Vintage Linenbacked World's Fair Poster (measures 38 1/2" x 49 3/4" [98 x 126 cm]) (Learn More)

1964 New York World's Fair, the 1964 to 1965 international exposition held from April 22nd through October 18th, 1964 and April 21st through October 17th, 1965. The theme of the fair was "Peace Through Understanding", dedicated to "Man's Achievement on a Shrinking Globe in an Expanding Universe". The theme was symbolized by the building of a 12-story high, stainless-steel model of the earth called the Unisphere. Industrial exhibitors played a major role by hosting huge, elaborate exhibits such as General Motors' Futurama, a show in which visitors seated in moving chairs glided past elaborately detailed miniature model scenery showing what life might be like in the "near-future".
If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know.
Important Added Info: Note that we have only once before auctioned this particular 1964 New York World's Fair poster (and it auctioned for $505), and it certainly has a wonderful image, and it was created by General Motors, which was, at that time, the world's #1 automobile car company. We don't know why we have only auctioned it once before, but possibly it is connected to it being larger than the other World's Fair posters we have seen. Either way, it is a rare poster that will look wonderful on the new owner's wall!

What IS linenbacking? Learn More

Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good. The poster had fine surface paper loss on parts of some foldlines (typical of high-gloss posters of this period). It also had some tiny creases along parts of the folds. Overall, the poster was in very good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was nicely backed, and displays well!
