A Linenbacked French Advertising Poster (measures 46 1/4" x 67 1/4" [117 x 171 cm]) (Learn More) Printemps is a French department store chain which focuses on beauty, lifestyle, fashion, and accessories. It was founded in 1865 by Jules Jaluzot and Jean-Alfred Duclos. The original store was designed by noted architects Jules and Paul Sedille and opened at the corner of Le Havre and Boulevard Haussmann in Paris. The policies of Printemps revolutionized retail business practices by having set prices and eschewed the haggling based on customer appearance that had previously been standard in retail shopping. Artist: Helene Majera Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good. The poster was never folded. It had just a few faint creases and smudges scattered in the poster. It had a tiny green area stuck to the lower left blue background. We removed it, but there is now tiny surface paper loss in that area, but very tiny. Someone once put tape on the back of the bottom of the linen on each side and on the back of the center, and it has made that area slightly sticky, but it is solely on the back of the linen and does not affect the front of the poster (and anyone could remove that slight stickiness with either "Undu" or some similar solvent. Overall, the poster was in very good condition prior to linenbacking. The restorer backed the poster "in the European style", meaning that they did not do restoration to the defects described above.
