As only Shaw could write it and the screen show it!"; "Pleasure-mad Rome scarlet symbols of history's most sin-swept era... comes to wicked life again!"; "Flaming story of history's most fabulous era!"; "Never till now as truly spectacular and funny as Shaw wrote it!"; "Regal splendor, beautiful women, laughs supreme--midst scenes of sensational wonders in the glittering days of pagan Rome!"; "From the classic story by George Bernard Shaw") starring Jean Simmons ("as Lavinia, a Christian too lovely for martyrdom."), Victor Mature ("A stern Roman Captain susceptible to beauty."), Robert Newton ("as Ferrovius, a giant who lost his temper."), Maurice Evans ("as Caesar, suave, wily, elegant and cruel."), Alan Young (in the title role "as Androcles, henpecked tailor who loved lions."), and Jim Backus. Note that Harpo Marx was the original choice to play Androcles! Also, as happened on other RKO films, changes made by Howard Hughes caused delays and other problems for this movie. This poster was linenbacked, and one of the following is true: either the poster had very minor defects, and was well backed, OR it had more significant defects, but they were extremely well restored, OR it had some minor defects that were not completely restored, and are somewhat noticeable. You can tell which of the above is the case for this particular poster by reading our "pre-restoration" description and also by looking at our "super-sized" image of the actual poster (we are the only major auction company we know of that gives accurate detailed pre-restoration information about linenbacked posters to our bidders, but we wish everyone did!). The poster had separation and tiny paper loss along most foldlines. There were pinholes, tears, and small areas of paper loss around the edges of the poster.
