Date Sold 3/14/2023Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Deluxe 8" x 12" [20 x 30 cm] Movie Still (Learn More) Fury, the classic 1936 Fritz Lang mob-violence-and-its-aftermath crime melodrama ("Based on a story by Norman Krasna"; about a man who is a victim of an angry mob, and he is trapped in a building and left to burn to death; he survives, but remains hidden, and the members of the mob are put on trial for his "death") starring Sylvia Sidney, Spencer Tracy, Walter Abel, Walter Brennan, Eddie Quillan, Bruce Cabot, Frank Albertson, and George Walcott. Note that this is a VERY "dark" movie, reflective of Fritz Lang's world view, having recently escaped Nazi Germany, and of course, the world itself had a similar view, with Adolf Hitler's rise to power. Yet it is also a very powerful movie, and many consider it among Fritz Lang's very best movies, which is saying a lot! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that the movie is called "Mob Rule" on the back of this still, which was the working title for this movie! Also note that this still has been trimmed and it now measures 8" x 12" [20 x 30 cm], and it is a deluxe still printed on double weight paper stock. Note that this still was consigned to us by legendary collector/dealer Marty Davis! Marty was hired in 1972 to evaluate the entire collection of W. Ward Marsh (1893-1971), who was the film critic for the Cleveland Plain Dealer newspaper from 1919, until his retirement in 1970. In 1919 Marsh wrote his first of 23,000 movie reviews for the Plain Dealer. Marsh died less than a year after his retirement in 1970. His library, and photographic and memorabilia archives were given to the proprietor of Cleveland's finest bookstore. Marty Davis was the first person with a background in film history and collectibles to examine the archives. He worked for three to four hours a day, for six months, and his compensation was his pick of the archives. This still is from the W. Ward Marsh archives, and it was stamped on the back by Marty Davis to indicate that it came from this legendary collection. Condition: good. The still was trimmed on all four sides. There is some discoloration at center caused by the snipe glued to the back. There is a crease in the bottom left corner. Learn More about condition grades
