An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Lobby Card (LC; measures 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]) (Learn More) The Captain Hates the Sea, the 1934 Lewis Milestone all-star high seas sailing romantic adventure screwball comedy ("A tidal wave of laughs!"; "All aboard the looney liner!"; "Story and Screen Play by Wallace Smith"; this was Columbia Pictures' answer to MGM's Grand Hotel, except set on a ship, and they put most of their top stars in the movie, but of course, they were not on the level of MGM's stars!) starring Victor McLaglen, John Gilbert (in his final role and the only time he didn't work with MGM), Alison Skipworth, Wynne Gibson, Helen Vinson, Walter Connolly (in the title role as Captain Helquist), Fred Keating, Leon Errol, Walter Catlett, Tala Birell, and the Three Stooges (Moe Howard, Curly Howard, and Larry Fine). Note that this John Gilbert sound movie, like all his sound movies, completely dispels the myth that he had a high-pitched speaking voice, which ended his career! Actually, he had a fine speaking voice, and there is much speculation as to what it was that actually ended his career, and that can be found in various places on the Internet, but it was definitely not his voice! Also note that The Three Stooges play musicians, and that only Larry has any lines, which he delivers with a Yiddish accent! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that we have only previously auctioned two lobby cards from this movie (and those were both 14 years ago), and we have never auctioned THIS card. We are also currently auctioning another scene card from this movie, in a separate auction, which we have also never auctioned! Note that there is a stamp on the back that reads "FROM THE COLLECTION OF Michael R. Hawks", who most would consider the premier lobby card collector and expert in the world (and he is still an active collector, looking for the last few items he needs!). Also note that we have a scan of both the front and the back of this lobby card, which should greatly help you see what defects it has. Condition: very good to fine. There are tack holes in the corners. Otherwise, the card is in nice condition. Note that this lobby card is completely unrestored and there is not a single piece of tape on either the front or back!
