The Tornado, Munchkinland, Horse of a Different Color, Startling Balloon Ascent, The Flying Monkeys, The Tree That Throws Apples"; "Gaiety! Glory! Glamour!"; based on the classic book of the same name by L. Frank Baum; nominated for the Best Picture Academy Award) starring Judy Garland (as Dorothy), Frank Morgan (in the title role as The Wizard of Oz!), Ray Bolger (as The Scarecrow), Bert Lahr (as The Cowardly Lion), Jack Haley (as The Tin Man), Billie Burke (as Glinda, the Good Witch), Margaret Hamilton (as the Wicked Witch), Charley Grapewin, "The Munchkins", and Toto too! Note that MGM was worried about how well this movie would do at the box office, and they did something we don't remember seeing on any other major movie advertising! One of the taglines says "Biggest sensation since Snow White", which means MGM was advertising a Walt Disney movie, but that shows just how worried they were! Of course, they needn't have worried, because this was a timeless classic that has only improved with age. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that original 1939 Wizard of Oz lobby cards were printed with a red color in the border background area and in the bottom studio credit that fades extremely easily. A high percentage of the cards that exist have either a pink color in those areas, and other cards have orange in those areas. This card has the red that the card was originally printed with, which is a big plus! Also note that we have a scan of both the front and the back of this lobby card, which should greatly help you see what defects it has. Condition: good. The card has light brown stains in the lower half of the left blank border and in the left one-third of the bottom blank border, and some in the "IZ" of "WIZARD" in the title, and in the area directly below that (see our images). It has tiny pinholes in the corners and one in the center of each border. There are stains scattered in the top two-thirds of the right blank border, with a tear near the middle of the right blank border that has a piece of masking tape on the back. The card once had a piece of clear tape on the back of each corner. Other than the above, the card is in REALLY nice condition, and the colors are bright and not faded at all (see above). This is the sort of card that responds wonderfully to restoration, for two reasons. One is because most of the defects are in the blank borders, and the other is that the light brown staining can almost always be very easily removed chemically without showing any signs of restoration. After being restored by a top restorer, this card will display wonderfully, and it truly will have very little "restoration"! Learn More about condition grades
