An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Six-Sheet Movie Poster (measures 81" x 81") (Learn More) National Velvet, the classic 1944 Clarence Brown (nominated for the Best Director Academy Award for this film) horse racing sports gambling family relationship melodrama ("MGM's great technicolor heart drama"; "Based on the novel 'National Velvet' by Enid Bagnold"; about a young English girl whose father is a butcher and her mother was a former English Channel swimmer, and she dreams of owning a race horse that will win the Grand National Steeplechase, and with the support of her parents and a young man of dubious character, she fulfills her dreams) starring Mickey Rooney, Donald Crisp (as Mr. Brown), Angela Lansbury, Elizabeth Taylor (in the title role as Velvet Brown), Anne Revere (winner of the Best Supporting Actress Academy Award for this film; as Mrs. Brown), Jackie 'Butch' Jenkins (billed as "Jackie Jenkins"; in his third movie role!), Eugene Loring, and King Charles (as The Pi; after the movie, Elizabeth Taylor was given King Charles as her personal horse!) This poster was linenbacked, and one of the following is true: either the poster had very minor defects, and was well backed, OR it had more significant defects, but they were well restored, OR it had some minor defects that were not completely restored, and are somewhat noticeable. You can tell which of the above is the case for this particular poster by reading our "pre-restoration" description and also by looking at our "super-sized" image of the actual poster (we are the only major auction company we know of that gives accurate detailed pre-restoration information about linenbacked posters to our bidders, but we wish everyone did!). The poster had tears, creases, and areas of paper loss in the top 1/3 of the four vertical foldlines. The bottom 2/3 of the poster was in quite nice condition prior to backing. Other than the above mentioned defects, there were some scattered smudges in the white background areas and a few other minor fold and border defects. The poster was well backed. The restoration in the top portions of the vertical foldlines is noticeable from close up, but from any distance away, the poster looks quite nice! Learn More about condition grades
