An Original Circa 1934 Vintage "Variation 2" Buck Jones No. 107 Pump Action Daisy BB Gun (air rifle, measures approximately 6 1/2" x 36") (Learn More) Buck Jones was the great cowboy western star who also was one of William Fox's top cowboy actors in the 1920s, before he switched to Columbia, where he became their leading star in the 1930s. He made scores of westerns, and early in his career he also appeared in many non-cowboy roles. When he first started making movies, he was billed as "Charles Gebhart" (which was his real name). In the middle 1910s, his billing changed to "Buck Gebhart", and it was not until early 1920 that he became "Buck Jones" (sometimes billed as either "Charles Jones" or "Charles 'Buck' Jones"). Some of his movies include: Lazybones, Empty Saddles, and The Phantom Ride. He was still making movies when he died tragically in the Coconut Grove nightclub fire in 1942. He was 50 years old. Important Added Info: Note that this is considered by collectors to be the "Variation 2" of this gun. The only difference between this and the later "Variation 3" is the style of compass used in the stock (this one has a rotating needle, and the later variation had a rotating dial). A knowledgeable collector tells us "...after their early success with the Buzz Barton in 1932 and 1933, Daisy introduced the Buck Jones Special. It was their second air rifle to be sponsored by a Hollywood cowboy star. In May 1934, Daisy initiated a nation-wide contest between the Buck Jones Special and the Buzz Barton air rifles. The Buck Jones was voted the winner.". If anyone knows more about this air rifle, please e-mail us and we will post it here! Condition: good to very good. The compass' needle has become unseated from the center of the compass and it is free-floating inside the compass dial (if one is careful it appears it could be maneuvered back into place without removing the compass dial's face). The sundial in the stock was designed to be used with a match or small bent twig inserted in the sundial's hole and the sundial is NOT missing any parts. There is a light surface coating of rust throughout the metal parts of the gun, but it is overall not very distracting. There are some pits and scratches throughout the gun's wooden stock. The gun appears to be functional, but for obvious safety reasons, and a lack of BBs to test it with, we did not 'pump' the gun or cycle the action in any way and we are not sure if the gun will still work. Overall, the gun is in pretty nice condition, especially considering that this was no doubt at one time a young boy's favorite toy! Learn More about condition grades
