Date Sold 7/12/2020Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Unfolded Insert Movie Poster (measures 14" x 36" [36 x 91 cm]) (Learn More) Satan Met a Lady, the 1936 William Dieterle crime murder mystery melodrama ("By Dashiell Hammett, author of 'The Thin Man'"; a re-make of the 1931 movie The Maltese Falcon, in which they changed the character names, and they are all after a "ram's horn"; of course, the movie was remade a third time with Humphrey Bogart, and became one of the best remembered movies of all time!) starring Bette Davis, Warren William, Alison Skipworth, Arthur Treacher, Winifred Shaw, Marie Wilson, and Porter Hall NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note the we have only previously auctioned one example of this insert, and that was 29 years ago, when it sold for $2,200! Not only that, but we have NEVER auctioned any other poster from this movie, and no lobby cards either! They are incredibly rare! Note that this poster is very old, and it would not make sense to attempt to roll it, as the paper is fragile and rolling it would surely damage it. Therefore we must be sent in a very large flat package. Please bear that extra shipping cost in mind BEFORE placing a bid on this poster! Condition: good to very good. The card has darkened somewhat. It had a 3" tear in the upper left border that extended into the back of Davis' hair. It had a hole in William's ear at top center, with fine scuff marks running down his hair and cheek. It had an uneven tear in the "A" of the title. It had a hole at bottom center below the "U" of "PICTURE" and many creases and ripples scattered in the bottom 2" of the poster, with some continuing up to the right of the credits. Somebody performed restoration to the above defects by putting tape on the back of the poster (with small paper, where there was a hole), and then they performed restoration to the front of the poster. They mostly left alone the creases and ripples in the bottom of the poster described above, although they put tape on the back of the left and right of those areas. You can see signs of the above defects and the restoration, but I would still think many collectors could happily display this incredibly rare poster on their wall, or certainly, additional restoration could be performed. Either way, the new owner will have a really rare and desirable poster to display on their wall! Learn More about condition grades
