An Original Vintage Campaign Book (measures 9 1/4" x 12 1/4" [23 x 31 cm]; 48 pages) (Learn More) 20th Century-Fox 1950-51, the 1950 campaign book featuring images and information for 20th Century-Fox movies for those years. There is something fascinating about this campaign book! Because this was the time that 20th Century-Fox had Marilyn Monroe under contract, one would THINK that she would be prominently included in this campaign book, but amazingly, Fox had not yet realized how wonderful she was! At this time, they had only put her in several of their minor movies, and they also gave her an important small role in "All About Eve", and while those earliest movies and All About Eve are advertised in this issue, Marilyn Monroe is NOT mentioned or pictured in any of those ads! I went through the campaign book page by page, and she is nowhere to be found. Remarkably, every place where they could have mentioned her, they don't, and the campaign book is filled with tons of images from the upcoming movies, and not one has Marilyn. There is even a 4-page section entitled "21,072 people in casts of 1950-51 attractions", where they ran the images of around 60 actors and actresses, but couldn't find room for Marilyn there either. She IS mentioned by name in exactly one place, which is in the summary for "A Ticket to Tomahawk" at the end of the campaign book, where she is listed as "Marilynn Monroe", so they managed to spell her name wrong. Just a year later, Fox would be rushing her into virtually every movie they could, and a year later, she was their top star, but in April 1950, she was an absolute nobody, not worthy of a mention or an image! Note that this magazine is officially a special issue of "Dynamo" magazine, which was a 20th Century-Fox studio publication. We don't know when Fox started publishing this magazine, but since the earliest one we have seen is from 1944 and says "Vol XIV, No. 9", we would imagine it started in the early 1930s. We know that most issues of Dynamo were small (both in size and number of pages) without color, but they made several deluxe special issues, including this one. When these special issues are large with many pages, we call them "campaign books", because they clearly took the place of the studio yearbook that year (and the covers indicate that). NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that we have provided a picture of the front cover of the campaign book, and also pictures of one or more interior two-page spreads (but we didn't make much effort to find the best ones!). These images should greatly help you judge the overall condition of the campaign book. Please realize that sometimes there were only a few ads in each campaign book, and sometimes quite a few, but that often the bulk of each campaign book is taken up by stories about current productions and other information of interest to theater owners (and I don't know that this information can be found anywhere else or that it has been reproduced in any book since its first publication!). Note: We have 11 images of this campaign book, but due to a space limitation, only TEN of the 11 images are displayed above. However, there is a "supersize" link to the right of those images that lets you see the other 1. Condition: very good. There are smudges and faint stains around the edges of the cover, and there are rust stains at the staple area of all pages, but otherwise, the campaign book is in really nice condition!
