An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More)

King of the Rocket Men, the 1949 Fred Brannon science fiction (sci-fi) fantasy serial ("A Republic Serial in 12 Chapters"; "Power-packed Adventure!"; "There's never been such action... such suspense.. such dynamite-charged excitement in Any serial!"; about a group of atomic scientists who suspect a traitor in their midst, so one of the scientists becomes a super hero Rocket Man, and works on exposing the evil "Dr. Vulcan", who has a device that can cause an earthquake, and when the Mayor of New York City refuses to pay a billion dollar ransom, the device is used, and there is an earthquake and massive tsunami in New York City's harbor, which was done by reusing footage from Republic's earlier 1939 disaster movie, "S.O.S. Tidal Wave"!) starring Tristram Coffin (in the title role as Jeff King), Mae Clarke, House Peters Jr., Don Haggerty, I. Stanford Jolley (as Dr. Vulcan), and James Craven. Note that in 1951, this movie was massively edited into the Republic feature film "Lost Planet Airmen", and because it was made two years later, and because it was so condensed that entire characters were lost and major plot elements were eliminated, many collectors see it as a re-edited separate movie, and not as a feature version of a serial, so we list "Lost Planet Airmen" as a separate title, but we don't argue with anyone who sees it as the "feature version" of this serial. Note that in 1966, an entirely different feature version of "King of the Rocket Men" was created for TV distribution.

What IS linenbacking? Learn More

Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. The poster had tears and small areas of paper loss in the vertical fold between the middle and bottom crossfolds, with a lesser amount in the rest of the vertical fold and on the horizontal folds. It had pinholes in the corners and there was a diagonal crease in each corner. Overall, the poster was in good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was pretty well backed, but you can see signs of the above defects and the restoration of the above defects. Note that either the restorer who mounted the poster did not leave any excess linen around the edges of the poster, or possibly the owner of the poster chose to carefully trim off the excess, so that the poster would fit in a frame.
