An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Monacan Movie Poster (measures 47" x 63" [119 x 160 cm]) (Learn More) Manon Des Sources (released in English-speaking countries as "Manon of the Spring"), the 1953 Marcel Pagnol French romantic melodrama (based on the novel 'L'ea des Collines' by Marcel Pagnol; about a shepherdess from the hills of Provence who seeks revenge on a village responsible for her father's untimely death; she cuts off the village's water supply which forces the entire community to speak up about long-held family secrets; she then learns the truth about her father's death) starring Edmond Ardisson, Henri Arius, Andre Bervil, Charles Blavette, Jean-Marie Bon, Marguerite Chabert, Luce Dassas, and Jacqueline Pagnol (wife of director Marcel Pagnol, in the title role as Manon des Sources). Note that this movie was re-made in 1986 under the same title by Claude Berri. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Artist: Albert Dubout Important Added Info: Note that we have never before auctioned this Monacan poster! The only other movie paper we have auctioned from this movie were two Argentinean posters and an Italian locandina. It measures the same size as a French one-panel, but it says "Monaco" at the bottom (we have seen a few other posters like this, and we therefore identify them as "Monacan"). What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: fair to good. The poster had darkening on most folds, with paper loss at some of the crossfolds, and some small tears and paper loss on parts of some folds only. Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to linenbacking. The restorer backed the poster "in the European style", meaning that they did not do restoration to the defects described above. After the poster was backed, it was roughly handled, and there is now a series of creases 5" to the right of center vertically down the poster (both in the poster and in the linen). Please bear these defects in mind before bidding on this extremely rare poster. Learn More about condition grades
