Why Gorillas Leave Home, the 1929 Arvid E. Gillstrom silent gorilla ape slapstick comedy short ("A Paramount-Christie Comedy"; produced by Al Christie) starring Bobby Vernon, Judith Barrett (billed as "Nancy Dover"), Eddie Baker, Charles Gemora (as the gorilla!), and Will Armstrong. Note that starting in 1929 and continuing into the 1940s, Charles Gemora played gorillas in many movies, likely because he owned a gorilla suit, and could do a somewhat convincing job portraying a gorilla. Just a few years later, Ray 'Crash' Corrigan would also start playing gorillas, and no doubt they competed for roles in every movie requiring a gorilla!
