An Original Vintage Unfolded Australian World War II Poster (measures 16" x 22 1/4" [41 x 57 cm]) (Learn More) Take Care VD, the 1946 Australian World War II (WWII) health poster warning soldiers overseas of the consequences of venereal disease and featuring art of a soldier fleeing from the letters VD that are descending from a storm cloud above him by Franz O. Shiffers. Note that soldiers were endlessly warned that they needed to stay away from local girls and prostitutes because of the dangers of catching venereal disease! At the end of the war, the risk to soldiers became even greater, because any soldier with VD could not be sent home until they were cured, so, if they caught VD, they risked having to make very embarrassing explanations to their families, girlfriends, or wives, saying exactly why they could not be sent home along with the other men! Artist: Franz O. Schiffers Condition: good. There is light rippling throughout the poster from exposure to moisture. It has some pencil writing at upper right in the blank border only.
