An Original Vintage Theatrical Style A Half-Sheet Movie Poster (1/2sh; measures 22" x 28" [56 x 71 cm]) (Learn More) The Woman in the Window, the classic 1944 Fritz Lang romantic love triangle crime film noir melodrama ("A too-beautiful woman, a too-carefree man - and an evening of gay flirtation shifting madly into a panic of guilt and fear and crimson Murder... That's Excitement For You!"; "It's the screen's supreme adventure in Suspense!"; "The amazing story of a footloose girl with beauty and a solid man with brains - partners by flirtation in a panicked night of guilt and fear and terror MURDER!"; based on the novel 'Once Off Guard' by J.H. Wallis; about a married professor who falls in love with the picture of a beautiful woman that he sees in a window, and then he meets the woman himself, and that launches him on a downward spiral involving murder) starring Edward G. Robinson, Joan Bennett, Raymond Massey, Edmond Breon, Dan Duryea, Arthur Loft, and Ralph Dunn. Note that this movie bears a tremendous resemblance to Lang's next movie, "Scarlet Street", with much the same plot and top cast, and yet both movies came from different source novels! Important Added Info: Note that we have only previously auctioned one example of this style A half-sheet, and that was 6 years ago. The person who purchased that poster had it restored, and has now reconsigned it, so it is still the only example of this poster we have ever auctioned! What IS gelbacking? Learn More Condition: good to very good. There was an approximately 1/2" circular tear at center in the bottom of the man's coat tail and there were some 3" and smaller tears and a few approximately 1/2" areas of paper loss around the edges of the poster. There were some creases, smudges, and scuff marks scattered throughout the poster (more so around the edges). Overall, the poster was in good condition prior to restoration. A talented restorer gel backed the poster (meaning they backed the poster onto a gel material) and they then performed restoration to the above defects, and then removed the gel backing, so that the poster still looks and feels like an original poster (and it is!), with no backing at all. Given the poster's defects described above, the restorer did a pretty good job, but you can see signs of the defects and the restoration, but the poster displays pretty well (see our super-sized images to get a good sense of exactly how the poster looks now). In addition, someone put a small piece of tape in the center of the top border, and it is still there, and they put tape in the left of the bottom border that was removed, causing surface paper loss in that area (but those border defects will not show if the poster is framed, and they certainly could easily be restored).
