If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Know that this movie was of course one of the most successful of all time, and because of this, it was re-released many, many times to theaters, both in the U.S. and in other countries. There was a U.S. re-release in 1946, and it had a set of lobby cards, but we have not seen a poster from that release. This poster is dated 1947, and it is extremely rare (we have only auctioned it once before in 2006), and we have never seen any other movie paper from that release (of course, it is possible that the 1946 re-release was carried over into 1947, but paper from either of these re-releases is definitely extremely scarce, even more scarce than the original 1933 movie paper! If anyone knows more about this, please e-mail us and we will post it here. What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good. The poster had small paper loss at the bottom two crossfolds. It had extra creases just above and below the regular horizontal ones. It had some tiny tears and tiny bits of paper loss on parts of some foldlines. It had a 4" vertical tear in the right of the bottom horizontal fold, extending into the edge of Cabot's cheek. There was a matching vertical fold in the right of the middle foldline starting in the bottom of the "N" of "KONG" and running down by the credits. There were many staple holes, tears, and paper loss around the edges of the poster and a lot of staple holes scattered within the image. There was a small rectangle of paper loss in the bottom center of the image, starting in the bottom of the "RIE" of "O'BRIEN" and extending into the top of the RKO logo. Overall, the poster was in good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was pretty well backed, but you can clearly see signs of the above defects and the restoration of the above defects. Note that the restorer who mounted the poster did not leave any excess linen around the edges of the poster. Learn More about condition grades
