An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More) Taxi Driver, the classic 1976 Martin Scorsese New York City descent-into-schizophrenia mental illness crime murder melodrama ("On every street in every city in this country there's a nobody who dreams of being a somebody."; "He's a lonely forgotten man desperate to prove that he's alive."; "Written by Paul Schrader"; nominated for the Best Picture Academy Award) starring Robert De Niro (nominated for the Best Actor Academy Award for this film; as Travis Bickle), Jodie Foster (nominated for the Best Supporting Actress Academy Award for this film), Albert Brooks ("as Tom"; in his first movie role!), Harvey Keitel, Leonard Harris, Peter Boyle ("as 'Wizard'"), Cybill Shepherd ("as 'Betsy'"), Martin Scorsese, Joe Spinell, and Richard Higgs NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that we have three times before auctioned different examples of this very special one-sheet! What is special about it? It looks like the regular international one-sheet, which has a two-color image of De Niro walking in Times Square, but all the other examples of this poster do NOT have a rating, but this one (and the three we auctioned previously, in 2006, 2014, and earlier this year) do have ratings! In 2006, when we received the first example of this poster from a collector, we had no idea what this meant, but in 2014, when we received another example, which came to us from a man who worked at Hollywood studios for decades, we strongly suspected that it was a poster that was printed but never actually distributed to theaters. Perhaps it was going to be an alternate U.S. style, and they decided against it, or perhaps this was the first U.S. poster, and then they created the full-color one after it, and this one was "replaced" by that. There is a very similar situation to this with the Star Wars "style C" poster (almost all known examples have no ratings, but a few printer's test posters do have ratings). After the man who worked at studios consigned his first one to us in 2014, he was surprised by how much it sold for ($464). He searched through all his posters and discovered that he had two more examples (and he has no more!). He told us at that time that he would auction one of them and keep the other as a memory of his time in the movie business. But when that second example auctioned for $1,024, he decided he didn't need the memory, and he gave us his final example to auction. This is that final example of that poster, and we know of no others! Condition: very good. The poster was not machine folded and appears to have been folded by hand (which seems to make it even more likely that this was a "test" poster that was never distributed). It has a few creases scattered near the crossfolds and a diagonal crease in the bottom left corner. Otherwise, it is in pretty nice condition! Learn More about condition grades
