An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded Spanish Movie Poster (measures 30 1/4" x 43" [77 x 109 cm]) (Learn More)

Der Weisse Teufel (released in the U.S. in 1931 as "The White Devil"), the 1930 Alexandre Volkoff German Russia nobility romantic war melodrama ("Adapted from Leo Tolstoi's story 'Hadschi Murat'"; "A Spectacular ALL-TALKING Feature Picture") starring Ivan Mozzhukhin (billed as "Ivan Mosjoukine"), Lil Dagover, Betty Amann, Fritz Alberti and Acho Chakatouny. Note that star Ivan Mosjoukine had been a major French star in the mid-1920s (he turned down the role of Napoleon with Abel Gance!), and he made a single U.S. movie, "Surrender", but he did not click with American audiences, and he returned to Europe, and his co-star Lil Dagover similarly did not catch on in America, and most of her movies were made in her native Germany. This movie was a German movie that was billed as an "all-talking" feature, but actually, it only had a synchronized soundtrack (likely added on post-production). The movie was made in January of 1930, but its U.S. release was not until August of 1931.

Artist: Frank
Important Added Info: Note that this is an extremely rare poster. We have never auctioned one in all our years of auctioning! Not only that, but first release posters from this movie have always been exceptionally rare. We sold a U.S. lobby card and a one-sheet and no other items in all our years of auctioning. This is one of six incredibly rare Spanish posters from the very early to mid 1930s. If you have collected for any length of time, you surely know that pre-war Spanish posters are among the most rare posters there are, and that the ones from the early 1930s, like U.S. ones, are even more rare than the ones from the later 1930s. So where did these six come from? Our consignor purchased them on a trip to Spain in the 1960s, and has held them all these years since! This is a very rare opportunity to purchase one of these six Spanish posters, with great images! Note also that this poster was folded at one time but has been laying flat for a long time and will be sent rolled in a tube.

Condition: good to very good. The poster has darkening, small tears, and a few tiny bits of paper loss in the blank borders and pretty minor fold wear. After a simple linenbacking, the poster will display wonderfully!
