An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded Italian Two-Panel (known in Italy as a "4 Fogli") Movie Poster (2p; measures 55" x 77" [140 x 196 cm]) (Learn More) Anime Buie (literally translates to "Dark Souls"), the 1916 Emilio Ghione Italian silent romantic adventure melodrama staring Hesperia, Kally Sambucini, Emilio Ghione (in the title role as Za-la-Mort), and Amilcare Taglienti. Za La Mort (Za-La-Mort) is a fictional character who was featured in a number of Italian films, and was a pulp hero of the silent film era. Ze La Mort was noted as a gentleman thief with an essentially honorable heart who often tackles those more villainous than himself. He was played by the actor Emilio Ghione who became closely identified with the role. The original series began with the 1914 film Nelly, followed by Za La Mort (which introduced a female sidekick played by Kally Sambucini). If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this poster was printed with an image only, but our consignor tells us that it is from the above movie. No doubt it was printed this way so that it could be used in many different countries. Note that we have never before auctioned any movie paper items from this movie until we received this poster, which is a "country of origin" poster for this Italian movie! Note that this is an extremely rare pre-World War II Italian poster! Virtually no Italian posters survive from before, during, or right after World War II (mostly only pre-war heavy stock lobby cards, and even those are rare). Apparently there were many paper shortages in Italy during World War II, resulting in the destruction of almost all pre-World War II posters! Also note that this Italian two-panel was printed in 2 sections designed to overlap, and when combined, the poster measures 55" x 77" [140 x 196 cm]. Condition: good to very good. The poster is somewhat fragile and has darkening on parts of most folds. It has some tiny tears and tiny paper loss on parts of the folds and borders. But generally, it has likely survived in about as good condition as one could hope for a poster that is over a century old. Learn More about condition grades
