An Original 1939 (from the first release of this movie in Argentina) Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Argentinean Movie Poster (measures 28 3/4" x 42 1/2" [73 x 108 cm]) (Learn More) Angels with Dirty Faces, the classic 1938 Michael Curtiz (nominated for the Best Director Academy Award for this film) romantic crime murder thriller melodrama (in this movie, quintessential tough guy Cagney is a hero to the Dead End Kids, and at the end his childhood pal, now a priest, asks him to be a coward as he is led to the electric chair to help keep those kids from following in his footsteps; "A story... mighty with the clash of men! A picture... unforgettable in its greatness!"; "Sensational in it's dramatic impact!"; "From a Story by Rowland Brown") starring James Cagney (nominated for the Best Actor Academy Award for this film; as Rocky Sullivan), Pat O'Brien (as Father Jerry Connolly), The Dead End Kids (Leo Gorcey [as Bim], Billy Halop [as Soapy], Huntz Hall [as Crab], Bobby Jordan, Gabriel Dell, Bernard Punsly), Humphrey Bogart (as James Frazier), Ann Sheridan (as Laury Ferguson), George Bancroft, and Frankie Burke (as the young Rocky; he was an unknown 17 year-old newsboy when he was discovered to play the young James Cagney, because he had an uncanny resemblance to young James Cagney!) NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that we previously sold a different Argentinean poster from this movie that we (at that time, five years ago) thought was from the first release of the movie in Argentina, because it had an image extremely similar to that of the U.S. three-sheet. However, on that poster, Humphrey Bogart was second billed, and on this poster, which we have never seen before, he is fourth billed (below the Dead End Kids!), so we think that this poster surely predates that other one, and that it would be from the very first Argentinean release in 1939 (given how big a star Bogart became just three years later, it seems reasonable it would have had a very quick re-release). If anyone knows more about this poster, please e-mail us and we will post it here. What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. The poster had a 1" area of paper loss at the top crossfold, with a thin strip of paper loss below it (running between Cagney's eyes and into the edge of his eyelid). There was tiny paper loss at the other two crossfolds and minor wear on the foldlines. There were thumb tack holes and stains around the edges. Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was pretty well backed, but you can see signs of the above defects and the restoration of the above defects.
