An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded Style B One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More)

The Greene Murder Case, the 1929 Frank Tuttle crime thriller ("Who was guilty of one of the most baffling crimes ever committed?"; "Weird happening in a house of mystery"; based on the novel by S.S. Van Dine) starring William Powell (as Philo Vance), Florence Eldridge, Ullrich Haupt, Jean Arthur, and Eugene Pallette. Note that William Powell first played Philo Vance in 1929's "The Canary Murder Case" and after the character proved very popular, he followed it the next year with "The Greene Murder Case", after which Basil Rathbone took over the role that same year in "The Bishop Murder Case". After Powell played Vance again in "The Benson Murder Case" (which was also made in a Spanish language version with an entirely different case), he then played him one more time in "The Kennel Murder Case" in 1933, but the character also appeared in ten more movies between 1934 and 1947, with other actors in the lead roles.

If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know.
Important Added Info: Note that ANY movie paper from this movie is incredibly rare. We have only previously auctioned a few stills and lobby cards from this movie (and NO other movie paper of any kind) until we received this style B one-sheet!

Note that this movie was released at the time when studios were rapidly making the transition to sound, and Paramount released both sound and silent versions of their top releases. For each of those movies, they issued a set of posters for the sound release (marked "SOUND" at the bottom left), and an entirely different set of posters for the silent release (marked "SILENT" at bottom left). The poster offered here is from the silent release of this movie, and it certainly has a wonderful and different striking image!

Condition: very good. The poster has the tiniest of paper loss in the top two crossfolds, with the most minor of fold and border wear. It has smudges in some of the letters of the title. One could certainly display this poster exactly as it is, or one might choose to have restoration performed to the letters of the title. That will be the choice of the new owner of this incredibly rare poster!
