An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded Half-Sheet Movie Poster (1/2sh; measures 22" x 28" [56 x 71 cm]) (Learn More) The Flying Saucer, the 1950 Mikel Conrad science fiction (sci-fi) UFO thriller ("What are they? Where are they from? Have YOU seen a flying saucer?"; "Streaking out of the unknown comes a strange new terror!"; "Out of the unknown comes a strange new terror!"; "'True' Magazine says: 'The Flying Saucers are Real! Out of the unknown comes a strange new terror!"; "Original story by Mikel Conrad") starring Mikel Conrad, Pat Garrison, Hantz Von Teuffen, Lester Sharpe, Russell Hicks, and Frank Darien. Note that this is a fascinating movie, but for all the wrong reasons! The United States had a "UFO" panic at this time, and somehow, Mikel Conrad, a minor actor who had had very few real roles, acquired financing for this movie, which he produced, directed, wrote the screenplay for, and starred in! But unfortunately, the financing must have been minute, because this is one movie that is so bad that it is completely bad! Its main claim to fame is that it was the very first UFO type movie, but even that is a technicality, since the movie's "flying saucer" was actually invented by a scientist in Alaska, and the FBI hires a rich playboy to go investigate, and most of the movie is just depictions of Alaska's scenery, making it seem more like a travelogue than a real movie. It definitely has its place in film history, but DON'T bother seeking it out in the hopes that it is "so bad it is good"! After this movie, director/star Conrad faded back into obscurity, and made no movies past the 1950s. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography.
