A Linenbacked Travel Poster (measures 27 3/4" x 37 1/4" [70 x 95 cm]) (Learn More) Chesapeake and Ohio Railway was a railroad formed in 1869 in Virginia by industrialist Collis P. Huntington, and it reached from Richmond to the Ohio River by 1873, where the railroad town (and later city) of Huntington was named for him. By the early 1960s the C&O was headquartered in Cleveland, Ohio, and in 1972, under the leadership of Cyrus Eaton, it became part of the Chessie System, along with the Baltimore and Ohio and Western Maryland Railway. C&O's train passenger services ended in 1971 with the formation of Amtrak. Note that their mascot, Chessie (a sleeping kitten) was introduced in 1933, and was so popular that the C&O could not keep enough merchandise in stock to supply the demand If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good. The poster was never folded. It had tears and small stains around the edges.
