Solidarnosc (literally translates to "Solidarity") is a Polish trade union that was founded on September 17, 1980 under the leadership of Lech Walesa. It was a broad anti-bureaucratic social movement, using the methods of civil resistance to advance the causes of workers' rights and social change. The government attempted to destroy the union by imposing martial law in Poland, but in the end it was forced to negotiate. The round table talks between the government and the Solidarity-led opposition led to semi-free elections in 1989. By the end of August, a Solidarity-led coalition government was formed. In December 1990, Lech Walesa was elected President of Poland. The logo of the trade union was designed by Jerzy Janiszewski
Artist: Tomasz Sarnecki
Important Added Info: Note that graphic designer Tomasz Sarnecki turned the image of Gary Cooper striding down the street in the classic 1952 film High Noon into a campaign poster for the 1989 Polish elections. The poster was publicly displayed all over Poland, encouraging voters to end Communist control of the country. The elections were the first democratic elections in Eastern Europe since 1946, and they brought to power Lech Walesa and the once outlawed Solidarnosc Party. The poster portrays Cooper holding a folded "elections" ballot in his right hand and he is wearing the Solidarnosc logo above his badge. The tagline at the bottom translates to "It's High Noon, June 4, 1989". Solidarnosc won in a surprise landslide. This 1999 re-print was printed in limited quantity by the artist in honor of the 10th Anniversary of the elections (the original posters are beyond rare).

Condition: very good. There are some light creases long portions of the right blank border. It is otherwise in pretty nice condition.
