Date Sold 8/4/2024Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Linenbacked German World War II Poster (measures 33" x 47 1/2" [84 x 121 cm]) (Learn More) Der Jude Kaufman Ubertrumpft (literally translates to "The Jew Kaufman Trumped"), the 1942 German World War II (WWII) Home Front poster created by the Reichspropagandaleitung (Reich Propaganda Directorate) of the Nazi Party, and featuring an image of Theodore Newman Kaufman, and a portion of an Argentinean newspaper article. The article quotes Kaufman as saying that Germans must be exterminated, and the poster goes on to say that because the Allies cannot win the war, they must resort to threats and that Germany is justified in waging the war because of "the fate that the Jews and Plutocrats want to inflict upon us". Note that Kaufman was an American Jewish businessman and author who wrote the book "Germany Must Perish!" which called for the sterilization of the German people and the distribution of the German lands. Mr. Kaufman intended for this book to help the Allies win World War II, but his intent completely backfired! This is because the book was extensively used in Nazi propaganda, often as a justification for the persecution of the Jews, and the Nazi's falsely claimed that Kaufman's "ideas were popular opinion in America, and that Kaufman was an associate of President Franklin Delano Roosevelt", which was in no way true. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that we have never before auctioned this German Home Front war poster, and it is surely incredibly rare, not only because of the paper shortages at this time, but because one would think that surviving examples of this poster (with its massive antisemitism) would have been destroyed immediately after the end of the war, and one would think that most or all surviving example would be in museums. What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. The poster had some creases, scuffs, and tiny bits of paper loss on parts of the folds, with some smudges, scuffs, and small stains scattered in the image. It had a few tears in the borders.
