Date Sold 9/4/2018Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Lobby Card (LC; measures 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]) (Learn More) The Case of the Stuttering Bishop, the 1937 William Clemens mystery crime thriller ("Baffling mystery! With thrills galore!"; based on the Perry Mason series of books by Erle Stanley Gardner; about a bishop from Australia who asks Mason to investigate the case of a woman who was wrongly accused of manslaughter 22 years before, and of course, he has a brilliant summation in court where he solves the crime!) starring Ann Dvorak (as Della Street), Donald Woods (as Perry Mason), Anne Nagel, Linda Perry, Veda Ann Borg, Joseph Crehan (as Paul Drake), and "a great cast". Note that Warner Bros. purchased the rights to these characters in 1934, and the first movie in the series was "The Case of the Howling Dog" starring Warren William. William played Mason in three more entries, and then Ricardo Cortez took over in 1936 for "The Case of the Black Cat". This movie was the sixth and final of the series, with Donald Woods in the lead role, and after that, the next Perry Mason on screen would be Raymond Burr in the classic 1960s TV series! Note that Donald Woods went on to appear in lots of B-movies, both in starring and supporting roles, and he called himself the "King of the Bs". NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: This was printed by Associated Displays Corporation which was a company based in New York City. Before it was discovered by noted poster dealer/historian Walter Reuben, collectors did not know the name of this company (and thought it to be located in the Midwest), and it is often referred to as the "other company" (and we will continue to refer to it that way, since collectors know it that way). From 1936 to roughly 1941, this company printed its own one-sheets and lobby card sets (and a very few inserts, half-sheets, three-sheets, 40x60s and stills) for three major studio movies (Warner Brothers, Paramount and United Artists, but no other studios). The items almost always feature a tiny legal disclaimer and cast credits only. The posters and lobby cards are from the original release of the movie, and almost always have completely different artwork from the regular studio release. They did this by combining elements from different film scenes onto one poster or card. Sometimes, "other company" posters have images that are the equal of those from the regular studio release posters. Note that we have a scan of both the front and the back of this lobby card, which should greatly help you see what defects it has. Condition: very good. There are a few small stains in the bottom blank border. Otherwise, the card is in nice condition. Note that this lobby card is completely unrestored and there is not a single piece of tape on either the front or back! Learn More about condition grades
