An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Australian Daybill Movie Poster (db; measures 14 3/4" x 40" [37 x 102 cm]) (Learn More) Souls at Sea, the 1937 Henry Hathaway anti-slave-trading seafaring sailor romantic love triangle adventure thriller ("Courage and disaster... Faith and treachery! The greatest adventure romance of all times"; "Adolph Zukor presents"; "Based on a story by Ted Lesser"; "Screen play by Grover Jones and Dale Van Every") starring Gary Cooper, George Raft, Frances Dee, Henry Wilcoxon, Harry Carey Sr., Robert Barrat, Olympe Bradna, Porter Hall, Virginia Weidler, Joseph Schildkraut, and Robert Cummings (Bob Cummings) NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Artist: Richardson Studio Important Added Info: Note that we have only previously auctioned one example of this Australian daybill, and that was 12 years ago. The buyer of that poster has now reconsigned it to us, so this is still the only example we have ever auctioned! Note that this is one of an amazing collection of 62 linenbacked Australian daybills that all have great art from Richardson Studio (or John Richardson, before he became "Richardson Studio"!), which many collectors feel have the best art and design of any Australian daybills, and are highly sought after by collectors. These were accumulated by a very dedicated collector over many years, and they are now being all offered at once (in 62 separate auctions), so this is a wonderful opportunity to obtain one or many of these daybills, many of which rarely are offered for sale or at auction. What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good. The poster had some tears and paper loss down the left and right borders, slightly extending into the image in some places. It had a tear just above the top of the center of the image, extending into the background, with another tear at the bottom of the "C" of "COOPER" extending down into the background. It had some tears and small paper loss within the image. Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was pretty well backed, but it was roughly handled after it was backed. Someone rolled it too tightly, causing creases down the left of the poster, both in the linen and in the poster. They are not that distracting, but bear this in mind before bidding. Learn More about condition grades
