An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Half-Sheet Movie Poster (measures 22" x 28") (Learn More) River of No Return, the 1954 Otto Preminger romantic love triangle adventure musical melodrama ("Monroe meets Mitchum in the most savage wilderness of all the Americas!"; "You ride the churning rapids of Devil's Teeth! You fight your way out of Thunder Gorge and Cree ambush! You cross the granite-walled Rockies! You're swept up by the swirling 'white waters' of the Maligne, Bow and Snake Indian Rivers... As Monroe and Mitchum meet, fight and love!"; "Only yesterday I was the honky-tonk dancer, the gambler's doll."; "He was the frontier-blazer, a man used to taking what he wanted..."; "Here, we sensed our over-powering loneliness."; "In the wonder of High-Fidelity Directional-Stereophonic Sound"; "Engulfs you in a flood of excitement!"; "And she can sing too!"; "From a story by Louis Lantz"; about a saloon singer and her gambler husband, who are rafting in Canada to register a mining claim; they are rescued by a farmer and his young son, and the cowardly gambler deserts his wife, and she, the farmer, and the son have to fend off an Indian attack) starring Robert Mitchum, Marilyn Monroe, Rory Calhoun, Tommy Rettig, Murvyn Vye, and Douglas Spencer. Note that Marilyn Monroe was injured during the violent river rafting scene, and she walked on crutches through the rest of the filming! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Condition: very good. This poster was linenbacked, and one of the following is true: either the poster had minor defects, and was well backed, OR it had more significant defects, but they were extremely well restored, OR it had some very minor defects that were not completely restored, and are somewhat noticeable. You can tell which of the above is the case for this particular poster by reading our "pre-restoration" description and also by looking at our "super-sized" image of the actual poster (we are the only major auction company we know of that gives accurate detailed pre-restoration information about linenbacked posters to our bidders, but we wish everyone did!). Note that we gave this condition grade to a very few posters that were in pretty good condition prior to linenbacking, but which were not all that well linenbacked, and which could be fairly easily re-backed with only minor additional restoration. The poster had many creases and small tears around the edges of the poster, and only a very few of them extend into the edges of the image. There are some faint scuffs in the image areas and some smudges in the white background areas. Overall, the poster was in very good to fine condition prior to linenbacking. The restorer linenbacked the poster "in the European style", meaning that they did not do restoration to the border defects or the tiny defects within the image, but they are really not at all distracting (and any restorer could easily touch them up without re-backing the poster). Note that the restorer who mounted the poster did not leave any excess linen around the edges of the poster. Learn More about condition grades
