eMoviePoster.comAuction History Result 4d0291 KISMET 1sh 1930 great art of Arabian Otis Skinner wearing turban, ultra rare! Date Sold 5/3/2020Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More) Kismet, the 1930 John Francis Dillon Arabian Baghdad romantic fantasy adventure melodrama ("Revealing 1001 Ecstasies 1001 Secret Delights"; based on the play by Edward Knoblock) starring Otis Skinner, Loretta Young (very young and beautiful in this role!), David Manners, Mary Duncan, Sidney Blackmer, and Ford Sterling. Note that this is a "lost" film which means that no surviving copies are thought to exist (however, the Vitaphone disc and home movie footage of the cast does exists). This was an English language version of the German language "Kismet", also made by First National Pictures in 1931 (but this was English language version was released in 1930). Universal did the same thing with "Dracula" in 1931. They filmed the movie twice, once in English, and once in Spanish, with two entirely different casts, U.S. actors for the English version and mostly Latin actors for the Spanish version, obviously for release in Spanish speaking countries, and the same was done with this movie, except it was released in German and English (the German language version, directed by William Dieterle, starred Gustav Frohlich and Dita Parlo). If anyone knows more about this, please e-mail us and we will post it here. Note that there had been a 1914 short movie adapted from this story, and in 1920, there was a feature version starring Otis Skinner, who remade it as this movie in 1930, and there were several later sound versions as well. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that first release movie paper of any kind from this movie is incredibly rare! We have only previously auctioned a few stills and heralds before we received this 1930 first release one-sheet! Condition: good to very good. The poster was folded somewhat oddly, resulting in some diagonal creases at the edges of the horizontal folds (more so the center horizontal fold - see our image) and it has caused some small separation and paper loss at the crossfolds. It has a few dot stains in portions of the outer edges of the blank borders. The ultra rare poster is otherwise in generally nice condition and it certainly can be displayed as it is and enjoyed by its new owner, but after a relatively simple linenbacking the poster would look great!
