An Original Vintage Theatrical Unfolded Style B Half-Sheet Movie Poster (1/2sh; measures 22" x 28" [56 x 71 cm]) (Learn More)

Citizen Kane, the classic 1941 Orson Welles (nominated for the Best Director Academy Award for this film) biographical newspaper journalism melodrama ("Some called him a hero... Others called him a heel"; "It's Terrific!"; loosely based on the life of William Randolph Hearst; nominated for the Best Picture Academy Award; many people consider it the finest movie ever made) starring Orson Welles (nominated for the Best Actor Academy Award for this film; in the title role as Charles Foster Kane), with the members of Welles' "Mercury Actors", who had previously acted with him on stage, Joseph Cotten (as Jedediah Leland), Dorothy Comingore (as Susan Alexander Kane), Everett Sloane (as Mr. Bernstein), Ray Collins (as Jim W. Gettys), George Coulouris (as Walter Parks Thatcher), Agnes Moorehead (as Mary Kane, Kane's mother), Paul Stewart (as Raymond), Ruth Warrick (as Emily Monroe Norton Kane), Erskine Sanford (as Herbert Carter), William Alland (as Jerry Thompson), Fortunio Bonanova (as Signor Matiste), Buddy Swan (as Kane at age 8), Harry Shannon (as Kane's father), and Alan Ladd (in one of his early incredibly tiny parts, but he does have a single speaking line!)

Important Added Info: Note that we have only previously auctioned one example of this first release style B half-sheet, and that was 33 years ago, when it sold for $3,850 (we also only auctioned one example of the style A half-sheet)!

Condition: fair to good. The poster was never folded. It has a few smudges and stains scattered in the background areas, with more around the edges, with small paper loss in three blank corners. It has a 2" tear near the center of the bottom border that extends into the credits and a 1" tear int he right blank border, and both of those tears have ancient tape on the back. The person who owned the poster framed it, and it was attached to a mat with a piece of tape on the back of the left and right borders, and the pieces of tape were removed when the poster was removed from the frame, and that caused surface paper loss in those two areas of the back, but other than that, and the two old pieces of tape on the back referenced above, the poster has never had any restoration. When the poster was displayed, it suffered fading. It appears that most of the reds in the poster are either much lighter than before or are gone. There were diagonal strikes of light red around the "It's Terrific!" and in the top right by Welles' credit, and because they were solely red, they are not not there at all, and Welles' face and hair have altered in color, because of the lack of the red portion of his skin and hair. The fading is also noticeable in the studio credit at middle right that reads "AN RKO RADIO PICTURE" and in the montage of images below it, where those were once a brownish color, and they are now a light black color. The rest of the poster did not have much red in it, but what little there was is gone. Obviously, this is a significant defect, but this very rare poster can still be displayed and enjoyed as it is, or one can choose to have any level of restoration performed, but that will be the choice of the new owner!
