An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More) Mr. Moto in Danger Island, the 1939 Herbert I. Leeds Asian detective Puerto Rico mystery crime thriller ("Moto on an isle of horror...! ...where terror stalks the shadows and a corpse can catch a killer!"; "In a far corner of Earth... Where life is cheap... Moto meets his strangest crime adventure!"; "From a novel by John W. Vandercook"; "Based upon the character 'Mr. Moto' created by J.P. Marquand"; "Based upon story ideas by John Reinhardt and George Bricker"; the seventh entry in this series of popular movies, in this one Mr. Moto goes to Puerto Rico) starring Peter Lorre (in the title role as Mr. Moto), Jean Hersholt, Amanda Duff, Warren Hymer, Richard Lane, Leon Ames, Douglass Dumbrille, Charles D. Brown, Robert Lowery, Ward Bond, and Harry Strang. Note that Fox had had great success with its Chinese detective, Charlie Chan, so it seemed natural for them to start this second series featuring a Japanese detective. It did not start until 1937, perhaps because they did not have an actor suitable for the lead role, but Peter Lorre had substance abuse issues, and he was probably happy to get the work. Fox made seven movies in just three years, but then they stopped the series, likely because of the rise of anti-Japanese sentiment in the U.S., as World War II neared. The poster had small paper loss at the crossfolds and extra foldlines alongside many of the regular folds with horizontal creases running across the bottom 6" of the poster. There were tears, separation, and tiny dots of surface paper loss on parts of many foldlines, with some pinholes, creases, and tears around the edges. Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was pretty well backed, but you can clearly see signs of the above defects and the restoration of the above defects. Learn More about condition grades
