An Original Vintage Theatrical 8 1/4" x 10" [21 x 25 cm] Movie Still (Learn More) The Blue Dahlia, the classic 1946 George Marshall romantic crime murder film noir ("Double Dame Trouble! Double-Barreled Action!"; "Double-dame trouble on his hands... and a murder mob at his throat!"; "One's out to frame him... the other to tame him!"; "With 3 famous 'finds' from 'The Lost Weekend'"; "Written by Raymond Chandler"; "Produced by John Houseman"; Ladd is a veteran just back from the war who finds his wife having an affair, and she is murdered, and he is naturally the lead suspect; he gets the ex-wife of his wife's new lover, played by Lake, to help him, and together they solve the crime) starring Alan Ladd, Veronica Lake, William Bendix, Howard da Silva, Doris Dowling, Frank Faylen, Tom Powers, Vera Marshe, Hugh Beaumont, and Walter Sande. Note that while many of Raymond Chandler's works were adapted to movies, this was the only one that Chandler wrote directly as a movie! Also note that by 1946, Alan Ladd had become a very top star, so on the advertising for this movie, his image dominates the posters, with Veronica Lake in the background, whereas when "This Gun For Hire" was released 4 years earlier, Ladd was pretty unknown, and Lake dominates the advertising for that movie (although Ladd does appear on the posters)! Also, note that a year after this film was released, a woman was murdered and newspapers dubbed it "The Black Dahlia" case in a morbid twist on this film's title. Note that not only does our current auction of 999 stills represent the absolute finest selection we have ever had in terms of quality of image and film, but it also represents the finest CONDITION group of stills we have ever had! Half of the stills are graded as being in "very good to fine" condition (which is our highest grade for vintage stills), but we were very strict on this, because otherwise, perhaps two thirds or three quarters of the stills would have received this grade! We downgraded stills to "very good" for pretty minor defects, and many of these might have received our "very good to fine" grade in the past. And the half of the stills that ARE in very good to fine condition would likely be graded "mint" by any other auction! This is the finest group of stills I have ever seen, and I can only hope to equal it someday! Condition: good to very good. Learn More about condition grades
