Date Sold 12/26/2021Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Title Lobby Card (LC TC; measures 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]) (Learn More) Narcotic, the 1933 Dwain Esper & Vival Sodar't drug addiction medical doctor melodrama ("The quagmire that drags down fair women"; "Interpreted by Dwain Esper"; about a doctor who becomes addicted to drugs, and ends up working in a carnival show selling bogus medicine so that he can fuel his ever increasing habit!) starring Harry Cording, Joan Dix, Patricia Farley, Jean Lacy, J. Stuart Blackton Jr. Note that Dwain Esper was well known for lurid exploitation movies, and this one is no exception. The movie opens with a scrolling introduction about how it is a warning about the dangers of drugs, and then it shows a suicide note being written by a doctor, and then it flashes back to a scene of the doctor performing an emergency caesarean section, and stock medical footage of a real C-section is used, which no doubt horrified 1933 audiences. And there is a long "party" sequence late in the movie where drug addicts use a variety of drugs, including injection through hypodermic needles, which was really rough stuff for the time. No doubt the movie only played in a very limited release, and first release movie paper from it is virtually impossible to find! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that ANY movie paper items from this movie are incredibly rare. We have only previously auctioned a single scene lobby card from this movie (and NO other movie paper of any kind) until we received this title card (which not only has Dwain Esper credited, but it also has a wonderful tagline "The quagmire that drags down fair women", and since we have never auctioned a first release poster, we don't know if that is also on the poster)! We are also currently auctioning a scene card that is different from the one we previously auctioned in a separate auction. Also note that we have a scan of both the front and the back of this lobby card, which should greatly help you see what defects it has. What IS gelbacking? Learn More Condition: good to very good. The card had tiny paper loss in the left and right of the top blank border. It had a 6" horizontal razor cut in the upper left going through the girl's body. It had some stains, pinholes, and small paper loss on the bottom 1 1/2", with a few smudges scattered throughout. Overall, the card was in good to very good condition prior to restoration. A talented restorer gel backed the card (meaning they backed the card onto a gel material) and they then performed excellent restoration to the above defects, and then removed the gel backing, so that the card still exactly looks and feels like an original card (and it is!), with no backing at all. You can see slight signs of the restoration, but the card displays really well! Learn More about condition grades
