An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Title Lobby Card (LC TC; measures 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]) (Learn More) A Dog's Life, the 1918 Charlie Chaplin silent screwball comedy ("The one and only Charles Chaplin in his first million dollar picture"; "In his first million dollar comedy"; "His Signature"; "A First National Attraction") starring Charlie Chaplin (Charles Chaplin; as the Tramp), Edna Purviance, Syd Chaplin, Henry Bergman, Charles Reisner, and Brownie the Wonder Dog (in the title role). Note that Chaplin was so incredibly popular in 1918, that First National had to pay him a million dollars per movie to lure him away from his previous studio (which was a staggering amount of money in 1918)! Naturally, they wanted to get some advertising value out of their massive expenditure, so they advertised the movie as "His First Million Dollar Comedy". Brownie the Wonder Dog got his giant break in 1918 playing the title role in this film. This led to major stardom and a series of shorts with his name above the title. He starred in 53 movies through 1923, at which point he hopefully retired at the peak of his fame! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that we have a scan of both the front and the back of this lobby card, which should greatly help you see what defects it has. Condition: good. There is a faint vertical line of staining running down the card to the left of the credits, and a similar horizontal line that runs beneath Chaplin's credit. The card has darkened around the edges and there are many tiny dot stains scattered throughout, and there is a tear in the bottom center. See our super-sized images to get a good sense of the condition of this card. Note that this lobby card is completely unrestored and there is not a single piece of tape on either the front or back. While this card can be displayed as it is, it is definitely possible that much of the light staining can be removed chemically, and if so, then the condition of the card can be greatly improved by a talented restorer, and possibly without much paint restoration.
