An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked French Movie Poster (measures 17 1/4" x 23 3/4" [44 x 60 cm]) (Learn More) L'inhumaine (released in English-speaking countries as "The Inhuman Woman"), the 1924 Marcel L'Herbier French silent science fiction (sci-fi) romantic love triangle fantasy adventure melodrama (a really wild story of a famous female French singer, who is beautiful and is pursued by many men, including an Indian maharajah and a young Swedish scientist; she learns the scientist has killed himself because she rejected him, and she shows no emotion and is booed at her next performance, so she goes to see the young man's body, and she tells his corpse that she did love him, but then she discovers he has faked his death, and is still alive!; however, the spurned maharajah is now furious with her, and he has her bitten by a poisonous snake, and now she dies, but fortunately, the Swedish scientist has figured out how to resurrect the dead, and they are together again!) starring Jaque Catelain, Georgette Leblanc, Leonid Walter de Malte, Philippe Heriat, and Fred Kellerman. Note that director Marcel L'Herbier had been a top French director in the late 1910s and early 1920s, but in 1923, he made a lavish adaptation of Tolstoy's Resurrection, and it failed, and then he got typhoid to boot. While he was recuperating, one of his friends, Georgette Leblanc, a famous French singer, offered to co-finance another movie by him, but only if she could significantly rewrite the screenplay, and star in it herself! L'Herbier agreed, and the result was this film, which has a really wild plot (see above)! Artist: Erik Aaes Important Added Info: Note that we have never before auctioned this French poster, which is a "country of origin" poster for this French movie! What IS linenbacking?
