An Original 1921 Vintage English Movie Magazine Supplement (measures 11" x 17" [28 x 43 cm]) (Learn More) Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, the classic 1920 John S. Roberson silent horror thriller ("By Robert Louis Stevenson") starring John Barrymore ("The Screen's Greatest Actor in a Tremendous Story of Man at His Best and Worst"; in the title roles), Martha Mansfield, Brandon Hurst, Charles Lane, and Cecil Clovelly. Note that there were several obscure silent movies based on this classic story starting in 1908. In 1920, Barrymore starred in this version, and there was a different English language version made that same year, and also a German language version, and all three movies had different casts and producers! Also note that Barrymore performed the initial transformation scene into Mr. Hyde without special effects! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note, of course, first release movie paper from the 1920 version of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde is incredibly scarce and expensive. This movie magazine supplement page IS from the first English release of this movie in 1921! Also note that on the back of the page are images of William Russell and Alma Taylor. Also note that in the late 1920s and early 1930s, the top English movie magazines started including "supplements" in the center of the magazine (sometimes they were bound in, and sometimes they were loose). These were like the Sunday newspaper "rotogravure" sections, and were all sepia and had great images from then-current movies. This supplement is from the July 23, 1921 issue of Picture Show.
