An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked German Movie Poster (measures 37 1/4" x 55 3/4") (Learn More) Ben-Hur: A Tale of the Christ, the classic 1925 Fred Niblo & Alfred Raboch silent religious epic ("A tale of the Christ by General Lew Wallace"; "A tale of the life of Christ"; "Never will I forget thee"; "A doomed slave, his spirit was unbroken"; "The Great Chariot Race"; "Before the chariot race... Esther bids godspeed to Ben-Hur"; "Produced from the scenario of Carey Wilson. Adaptation by June Mathis"; "From the novel published and copyrighted by Harper and Brothers"; "From the immortal novel by Gen. Lew Wallace"; "Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer in arrangement with Abraham L. Erlanger, Charles B. Dillingham & Florenz Ziegfeld Jr."; it includes the famous sea battle and chariot race that the later version of this movie is most famous for) starring Ramon Novarro (in the title role as Ben-Hur), Betty Bronson (as Mary), May McAvoy (as Esther), Francis X. Bushman (as Messala), Carmel Myers (as Iras), Kathleen Key (as Tirzah), Frank Currier, Claire McDowell, Clark Gable (as a Roman guard; in one of his 14 uncredited roles prior to making his real debut in 1931's "The Painted Desert"), and Claude Payton (as Jesus Christ). Note that this movie was advertised as being "Filmed in its entirety in Italy", but actually, several of the scenes were filmed in Hollywood! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that the American posters from this classic silent movie are disappointing, for they show romantic images of Ramon Novarro and his female co-star, but they certainly do not show the scenes for which the movie is best remembered. This first release German poster has a spectacular stone litho image of Novarro riding in the chariot race, the most famous sequence from this movie. Also, note that pre-World War II German posters are EXTREMELY rare. Very few are offered in the collectors' market, especially those from major U.S. movies! Condition: very good. The poster had tiny paper loss at some crossfolds and some creases, tears, and tiny paper loss on parts of some foldlines. Most of the top blank border had been trimmed off, and 1" of the bottom blank border was trimmed off, extending into the very bottom of the "PARUFAMET" logo. Overall, the poster was in very good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was well backed, and the restorer added the portion of the top and bottom blank borders that was missing and also the very bottom of the Parufamet logo, and did touch up to the minor defects within the poster, and the poster looks great!
