Bad Reichenhall is a spa town located near Salzburg in a basin encircled by the Chiemgau Alps. It is a traditional center of salt production, obtained by evaporating water saturated with salt from brine ponds. The Predigtstuhlbahn (cable car system) was constructed in 1927/28 and has been taking visitors onto Predigtstuhl mountain near Bad Reichenhall ever since. It is the oldest large-cabin cable car preserved in its original state in the world and represented a milestone in cable car construction when built.
