Date Sold 12/17/2024Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 28" x 42" [71 x 107 cm]) (Learn More) the 1939 re-cut release of Paroled from the Big House (often re-titled either "Main Street Girl" or "Main Street Girls"; see below), the 1938 Elmer Clifton action crime thriller ("Crime marches to inevitable doom"; "Organized crime makes its final stand!"; "A screaming defi [sic] to the underworld!"; "Today's glamour girls blinded by passion!"; "Our dancing daughters lost in the pitfalls of big cities!"; "For adults only"; from the "Crime Marches On!" series of movies; produced by J.D. Kendis as "Jay Dee Kay Productions") starring Jean Carmen, Ted Adams (billed as "Richard Adams"), George Eldredge, Ole Olsen (billed as "Ole Oleson"), and Gwen Lee. Note that producer J.D. Kendis was one of the legendary pioneers of early low-budget movies (often with large doses of sex, drugs, bad girls, and all sorts of low-life activities!). Because his movies were given limited releases around the country, often playing for years in their first release, it is difficult to know if posters from his movies are surely from the very first year of release, or if they are from a later re-release. In the case of this movie, we have learned much more about the history of it. Apparently, this originally was a true sexploitation movie, with nude scenes and strippers. However, a year later, in 1939, the movie was re-cut and re-released as "Main Street Girl" (and at least in some markets it was called "Main Street Girls", and other markets kept the original title), which removed all of the nudity and turned it into a regular crime melodrama! Unfortunately, it seems that the original version no longer exists, because it is the 1939 re-cut version that has been widely distributed, sometimes under either the original title or one of the re-release titles, "Main Street Girl". We have auctioned items with the original title that may or may not be from the original 1938 release, and we believe that the items that say "Main Street Girl" and "Main Street Girls" are surely from the re-cut version, but they may or may not be from that version's 1939 first release (and we have auctioned a pressbook that seems to surely be from 1939). Therefore, there is great uncertainty as to the release date of posters with any of these three titles, so bear that in mind before bidding on these posters! If anyone knows more about this, please e-mail us and we will post it here. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that, as noted above, we believe this poster is from the 1939 re-cut version of the 1938 movie "Paroled From the Big House", and this is the much more rare version which is titled "Main Street Girls" instead of the alternate title "Main Street Girl". However, we don't know if the poster is from 1939 or from a 1940s re-release. Therefore, do not bid on this poster unless you can accept this uncertainty (and unfortunately, it might never be definitively resolved). Also note that this one-sheet measures 28 1/4" x 41 1/4" [72 x 105 cm]. Condition: good to very good. The poster has creases and smudges along portions of the folds (especially the vertical foldline - see our image). It has a few tiny tears in portions of the center horizontal fold and a slight misprint at upper right in the border. It is otherwise in pretty nice condition and after linenbacking the poster will look great! Learn More about condition grades
