Joe Louis and Tommy Farr, the 1939 boxing sports fight picture ("Official! Authentic! Exclusive motion pictures of the sensational heavyweight championship contest between Joe Louis and Tommy Farr"; "Joe Louis world's heavyweight champion"; "Tommy Farr British champion"; "The most surprising upset in the history of the ring"; "Blow by blow - close ups"; "Slow motion - 15 rounds of action"; "Every seat a ringside seat") for the world title match that took place on August 30th, 1937 at Yankee Stadium in New York City. In the days before television was widely available, boxing matches were almost always filmed and then released to movie theaters, and the best matches often were extremely popular with moviegoers. Note that Heavyweight Champion Louis won the bout in a controversial points decision after 15 rounds. The crowd booed when Louis was awarded the decision, and a sportswriter wrote, "The verdict is that of a man either blindly partisan or afflicted with astigmatism." The ferocity of the battle and its level of competition, may be best summed up by Tommy Farr, who later on in life said, "When I talk about that fight, my nose still bleeds."
