An Original Vintage Linenbacked Circus Poster (measures 27" x 41 1/4") (Learn More) Sells Floto Circus and Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show, the 1913 to 1915 circus cowboy western poster advertising the combination circus/wild west show. An advanced collector tells us that Buffalo Bill joined the Sells-Floto circus from 1913 to 1915, and in 1916 he joined the Miller and Arlington Wild West Show, so it seems quite likely this poster is from between 1913 and 1915, however it occurs to us it is possible that Sells-Floto continued to use Buffalo Bill's name after he left the circus, so we cannot be 100% certain, but it does seem likely to poster dates from 1913 to 1915. Please only bid if you can live with this uncertainty! If anyone knows more about this poster, please e-mail us and we will post it here. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Condition: good. The poster was linenbacked soon after it was made, with a very thin linen, and no excess, and metal grommets were inserted into each of the corners (this backing gave the poster enough weight that it could be hung on a wall by the grommets, and would last through the run of the circus at least). The poster was folded once in each direction, and this caused horizontal tears in the bottom half of the vertical fold, and someone put three pieces of clear tape on the front of the poster over those three tears. There is a large semi-circular tear in the middle of the right border, extending into the bottom of the "S" of "CIRCUS". There are some water stains scattered around the edges of the poster. There are many tiny tears and a few tiny areas of paper loss and surface paper loss around the edges of the poster. Obviously, this poster has lots of small defects, but the majority of them are in the background or borders, and the great stone litho image is hardly affected, and neither are most of the letters of the title. If I owned this poster, I would give it to a restorer and have it removed from the thin linen, and have the grommets removed, and have it backed on to a normal poster linen, and after restoration of the above defects, the poster would look fantastic!
