Griffith silent religious biblical war melodrama (based on the poem and play by Thomas Bailey Aldrich; about a widow who poses as a harem girl to kill a general and end a siege) starring Blanche Sweet (in the title role as Judith), Henry B. Walthall, Mae Marsh, Robert Harron, Kate Bruce, Lillian Gish, and Harry Carey Sr.. Note that this was the first feature-length film made by Biograph (though it was released second). D.W. Griffith left Biograph after completing this film (sources vary on why), taking the entire stock company with him to join Mutual! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that this lobby card measures 7 1/4" x 10" [18 x 25 cm], but it has not been trimmed (it was made that way). Also note that, in the early days of movie making, when lobby cards were first made (around 1915), the very first lobby cards from the end of 1914 were vertical in orientation. This was true of both 11x14 cards and 8x10 lobby cards, but both are unbelievably rare. This is an original 1914 8x10 lobby card from this D.W Griffith movie, and it is likely that virtually no movie paper from its first release still survives! What are 8x10 lobby cards? Studios would issue sets of the cards in two sizes; the regular 11" x 14" size, and a smaller 8" x 10" size. The cards were identical in every way except for the different size. This practice continued through the early 1920s, at which point the studios abandoned the smaller lobby cards, likely because theaters either ordered 11" x 14" lobby cards or 8" x 10" stills, and did not order enough of the 8" x 10" lobby cards to justify them continuing to make them. Condition: good to very good. There are some tiny bits of surface paper loss around the edges and some slight darkening, but it seems remarkable that this card survives at all!
