An Original 1947 (from the first release of this movie in Italy) Vintage Theatrical Folded Italian One-Panel (known in Italy as a "2 Fogli") Movie Poster (1p; measures 39" x 55" [99 x 140 cm]) (Learn More) The Big Sleep, the classic 1946 Howard Hawks romantic crime film noir ("The picture they were born for!"; "A Warner hit!!!"; "From the novel by Raymond Chandler"; "Screen Play by William Faulkner, Leigh Brackett & Jules Furthman") starring Humphrey Bogart (as Philip Marlowe), Lauren Bacall, John Ridgely, Martha Vickers, Dorothy Malone, Louis Jean Heydt, Charles Waldron, Charles D. Brown, Bob Steele, Tom Fadden, Ben Welden, and Sonia Darrin. Note that not only did this movie have the direction of Howard Hawks and the great star power of Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall, but it also had the brilliant Raymond Chandler source novel, and a screenplay written by three great writers: Faulkner, Brackett, and Furthman! Artist: Luigi Martinati Important Added Info: Note that Italian posters from the first few years after World War II are among the most rare posters there are! Apparently, there were still major paper shortages in Italy, and few posters were printed, and most were recycled. This is an extremely rare first release Italian poster from 1947, which we have never auctioned before! Condition: good to very good. The poster has small paper loss at the middle crossfolds with small tears and some tiny paper loss on parts of the folds. It has a 3" diagonal tear in the credits, in between the two "L"'s. of "BACALL". It has tack holes around the edges Someone put small pieces of clear tape on back of some of the tears and separation and they also put white tape on back of the diagonal tear, but otherwise no restoration was peformed. If I owned this wonderful rare poster I would surely have a top professional linenback it and afterward it would display wonderfully.
